Kobu Asian Bistro sits quietly on S Lake Blvd in Mahopac, offering a full-service dining experience that blends Chinese, Japanese, and broader Asian fusion flavors. The space is comfortably sized with plenty of seating, making it a solid choice for family meals or casual gatherings without the rush or crampedness sometimes found in busier spots. The atmosphere feels approachable and relaxed, with attentive staff who handle busy times gracefully, including families with young children.

The menu shows a clear affection for hibachi and sushi, with popular dishes like the Hibachi Combo Chicken and Steak and the Sushi and Sashimi Combo drawing praise. Locals note generous portion sizes, especially during lunch, and the kitchen balances authenticity with accessibility — making it a well-rounded option for those seeking variety without overwhelming complexity. Hibachi diners won’t find themselves stuck lightly entertained just waiting forever for their food; the experience is lively but efficiently paced.

Visiting around midday on a weekday or weekend lunch reveals an inviting spot where large groups and families fit in comfortably, though some mention that weekend lunch specials aren’t currently available which could be a small trade-off for the generous plates. Sushi enthusiasts appreciate selections such as the Philadelphia Roll and Spicy Tuna Roll, alongside more inventive combinations like custom sushi roll boats. The kitchen appetizers like Gyoza and Edamame offer easy starters that fit the casual vibe.

This bistro works best for those who want a mix of Japanese and Chinese-style dishes served in a straightforward, no-fuss environment. You can expect a calm, family-friendly atmosphere with a staff ready to adapt to different group sizes and needs. Dinner brings a livelier crowd, especially around hibachi grills where chefs add a touch of fun without dragging the meal out, while lunch suits those looking for a hearty Asian fusion plate in a town that otherwise doesn’t have a large sushi or hibachi scene.

Delicious meal! Went here on a Sunday for lunch. The portion was HUGE! Just wish they’d do lunch specials on the weekend.

This is a great spot for Asian cuisine. We have gone before, during and after Covid and they continue to be the best in the area. Their hibachi is very good and they will not make you sit there for outrageous amounts of time just to fill a grill like others do (!). Chefs are fun and service is quite good. Their sushi was rated top notch as well though we haven't tried it yet.
